VU Trailblazers battle past Shawnee in 85-76 win to remain unbeaten on the season

ULLIN, Ill. - The NJCAA No. 1 Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team remained unbeaten and atop the NJCAA District 16 when the Trailblazers escaped Saturday afternoon with an 85-76 win at Shawnee.
VU (12-0, 6-0 in District 16 competition) got 20 points from sophomore Charles Foster, 17 from sophomore A.J. Patty, 16 from sophomore Everett Clemons and 11 from sophomore Jaelan Manson.
Shawnee sophomore forward Justin Leon scored a game-high 31, which was the largest offensive outburst against the Trailblazers this season.
VU trailed 49-42 at halftime and throughout much of the game. In fact, the host Saints (6-6) led by as many as 10 points in the first half. The Trailblazers clawed their way into a 60-60 tie in the second half and then finally took lead at 62-60 when Clemons stole the ball and got it to Foster for a lay-up as he was fouled. Foster knocked down the free throw to complete the 3-point play and make it 63-60.
Shawnee managed to retake the lead by a 66-65 score a short time later, but Patty's two free throws lifted VU back in front and the Trailblazers then held off a series of Saint runs to post the victory.
VU returns to action Tuesday, hosting Elizabethtown in a 7 p.m. contest at the VU P.E. Complex. The Trailblazers will then host Don Bosco Prep on Dec. 20.
