VU Women's Basketball holds on against MAC to improve to 6-0

The Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team withstood a furious comeback attempt by Mineral Area and held on Sunday to defeat the Cardinals 65-62 in the last game of the Sodexo Classic at the VU P.E. Complex. The victory improved the Trailblazers to 6-0 on the season.
Freshman Chelsea Bentley led VU with 16 points while freshman Jesheon Cooper turned in a double-double by scoring 10 points and yanking down 13 rebounds. In addition, the Trailblazers got 13 points from freshman Jeanier Olukemi and 10 points from sophomore Nicole Dodd.
VU led throughout most of the game, including a 31-22 advantage at halftime. But Mineral Area instituted a bothersome press and and turned up its defense in general in the second half to pull ahead about midway in the final 20 minutes.
The Trailblazers clawed back in front - helped by 7-of-8 free throw shooting down the stretch by Olukemi and sophomore Tasia Brewer to preserve the victory.

We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.
