VUVB adds Macy Michels to Impressive 2018 Recruiting Class

Vincennes, IN - The Vincennes University Athletic Department is happy to announce the signing of Macy Michels to the Trailblazers’ Volleyball team. Michels is the daughter of Curt and Sandy Michels, and is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to major in nursing. Macy comes to VU by way of Teutopolis High School in Illinois, where Michels led the to a school record 24 wins in 2017. The Teutopolis volleyball program was restarted in 2010 after being dropped in the late 1980’s. She also garnered many individual honors and recognitions this past season, including; All-State Special Mention, as well as being named to the Herald & Review All-Area and All-Tournament at the Freeburg HS tournament teams.

Macy is a 6-2 middle blocker and opposite hitter who had a 35.6% hitting percentage with 254 kills and a 93% serving percentage with 42 aces last season. She also set school records for kills (583) and blocks (106) in a career. In addition to volleyball Michels also is a standout member of the basketball team at Teutopolis, being named to the All-Tournament team at the Salem HS tournament. The basketball team is 18-0 and, presently ranked #3 in the AP poll for 2A schools and #21 in the MaxPreps poll for the entire state of Illinois.

Teutopolis Volleyball coach Tim Mills had this to say about Macy’s signing, “Macy is a winner! She expects to succeed and works to make it happen. She has played a lot of volleyball and, so she really understands the game. Her volleyball IQ is very high. She is a great addition to Vincennes University.”

VUVB coach Gary Sien gave his thoughts in Michels choosing to play for VU, “Macy has experienced great success at Teutopolis in basketball as "T-Town" is known as a state powerhouse. We are thrilled that she chose to play volleyball at the University! What impressed us about Macy is not only her front row play in attacking and blocking but in her first contact skills of passing and serving. Her team this year left their mark in having the most wins (24) in the program's history. We will need that type of leadership in the Fall.” Sien also said, “We are also excited to reconnect with Coach Mills and the southeast area of Illinois. He is the director of Macy's club and I have had a number of his players play for us at my previous school (Kankakee Community College).”
