VUVB Cruises Past Frontier for 28th Win of the Season

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Trailblazers rebounded from a hard-fought weekend at the Jefferson College Halloween Classic by cruising past Frontier Community College at home this evening in straight sets: 25-10, 25-17, 25-12 to pick up their 28th win of the season.

The Lady Trailblazers got out to a hot start in set one. They started the game on a 4-0 run, and led 8-1 over the Bobcats before they finally called a timeout to stop the bleeding. VU coasted to a 25-10 set win to open the night.

In set 2, the Trailblazers again jumped on Frontier early. They got-up 23-9 in the 2nd, but the Bobcats would battle back to make it interesting late. VUVB still took set #2, 25-17.

Set 3 was much of the same as the 1st. The Lady Blazers traded blows with Frontier early, but pulled away to a 25-10 set 3, and game victory.

The Trailblazers were led in kills by sophomore Gabrielle Medrado. She was joined in the kills column by fellow sophomore Genesis Milisde with 6. Sophomore Cali Topolski reeled in the team high in set assists with 20, and Medrado found herself in another statistical column on the night as she chipped in 8.  Medrado, Freshman Baylee Lippincott, and sophomore Abby Bigler all recorded 2 aces a-piece. Bigler also led VU in digs with 10, while freshman Allison Ruddick, and Cali Topolski added 6 each.

Coach Sien said after the match, “This was a great match in which we got everyone in, and played we played well from beginning to end. We had a very difficult start against Frontier last time, so we did not want that to happen again.”

The Lady Blazers move to 28-and-10 on the year, the sophomore core of the team records their 57th win together heading into Sophomore Night, and the final home match of the regular season. VUVB will take on Lindenwood University-Belleville on Friday night at 7 p.m. Prior to that game, a Trailblazer Tailgate will be held on the Jefferson Union patio from 5:30-6:30 p.m., then the team will recognize what has been one of the greatest group of sophomores in the programs history. Please come out and support the Lady Trailblazers as they celebrate the countless sacrifices of these great young ladies, and the last home match before the District Playoff!
