VUVB Inks Penn Stand-Out Rachel Rupert

Mishawaka, IN – The Vincennes University Volleyball team continued what was a fantastic season by signing Rachel Rupert of Penn High School To the 2018 class. Rupert is 6’0” Middle Blocker & Outside Hitter, and was one of the key contributors to a Kingsmen team that recorded a top-5 ranking in the state of Indiana, won the South Bend Sectional, was the Northern Indiana Conference Champions, and was named to the Indiana High School

Rupert was one of the most skilled players on a very talented Penn Volleyball team this year. Coach Sien said on signing Rupert, “We are elated to welcome Rachel into the Trailblazer family! She has done extremely well in both the classroom and on the court but more importantly she has demonstrated high character and leadership. We look forward to seeing her grow in these and many areas."

Rupert was a transfer student her junior year, and had a learning curve to face in her first year at Penn High School. However, with support and guidance of Coach Sarah Hendricks and her Kingsmen teammates, Rupert quickly became one of the most skilled, and well-rounded athletes on the court. Rupert will now be taking those talents to Vincennes University!

Rupert said on signing with VU, “I didn’t think Vincennes would be where I would have ended up. It was my third college visit, and I had two more scheduled afterwards, but during my tour and getting to talk to the team, I knew it was home.” She continues to say, “I actually canceled my last two visits, which I felt would include my #1 choice going in, because I was so set on going to this school.”

Penn Head Volleyball Coach Sarah Hendricks believes that Rupert has a bright future both in the sport, and at Vincennes.

“Rachel has made such vast improvements over her time here at Penn. She really has developed as a player, and played a vital role in the offense and defense of this team. Rachel works unbelievably hard every time she steps on the court. She is a tremendous teammate, who always puts others first. I think she will be a huge asset over her next to season at VU.”
