Imagine yourself as a television news anchor? Here’s your chance to begin. You may audition for anchor, sports anchor and weather positions on WVUT-TV’s nightly live 30-minute newscast, staffed by students. Not an on-air kind of person? No problem. You may also choose to work in a variety of technical positions on Newscenter 22. You may shoot and edit video news stories, switch and direct, run audio or camera, and more.
You can also be part of the production of 22 Magazine, WVUT-TV’s public affairs magazine program. Your opportunities on 22 Magazine include running cameras, audio, graphics, and shooting video used during the program. For WVUT, you’ll also work with staff to produce public television promotional materials and commercials for outside clients. You’ll learn non-linear editing in AVID editing suites, and both studio and ENG/EFP camera operation. Some of the other television opportunities waiting for you are crew positions on debates, legislative forums, basketball games and other remote broadcasts, including the annual live broadcast of the Miss Vincennes University Scholarship Pageant.
WVUT is a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) affiliate serving Southwestern Indiana and Southeastern Illinois. Newscenter 22 has won a Spectrum Award for Best TV Newscast in the Non-commercial TV category by the Indiana Broadcasters Association, and also recently won 3rd place for best Television News program in the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters contest.
