ASN Completion Concentration for Licensed Practical Nurses

Available on the Vincennes and Jasper campus

The ASN Completion Concentration for Licensed Practical Nurses provides a route for current LPNs who wish to obtain their ASN and become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN to become a registered nurse.  This option begins annually in the Spring semester.  In order to apply to the ASN Completion Option, applicants must have the following pre-admission requirements completed:

Pre-Admission Requirements
Current LPN Licensure
Minimum GPA of 2.6 in nursing related/required courses
Successful completion of the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:

  • English Composition I
  • Anatomy and Physiology  I (lecture and lab)
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Completion of Elementary Chemistry (CHEM 100/100L at VU or an equivalent course) –or- completion of two semesters of high school chemistry with a C or better that was completed within six years of admission to the program  
  • Math:  In addition to the course above, applicants must be eligible to enroll in College Algebra (Math 102) or higher.    In order to meet this requirement, the applicant must complete one of the following:   Math 016 Algebra II or Math 022/Math 102 (or Math 023/103) with a grade of C or better -or- complete the University Accuplacer with a minimum score of 70 -or- complete College Algebra (Math 102) or higher with a grade of C or better -or- have appropriate transfer credits for College Algebra.    Please note that applicants seeking credit for math must have completed the course within the last seven years. 

Upon successful completion of NURS 175 with a grade of C or better, students are granted an additional 11 credit hours (NURS 170-LPN Experiential Credit). There is not a fee for the 11 credit hours

All applicants must complete a VU application and apply to the Nursing Program.   Compliance with all criteria does not guarantee selection for admission to the program.  

On the Vincennes Campus:
The application process is a multi step process.  Applicants must first submit an application via the VU Admissions Office.  Upon admission to the University, applicants will receive information about applying to the College of Health Sciences & Human Performance (Nursing).  

On the Jasper Campus:
Applicants must be admitted to the Vincennes University Jasper Campus prior to submitting a nursing application.   Nursing applications may be picked up at the Office of Nursing, located in the Classroom Building.  

 

The ASN Completion Concentration for LPNs is accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
