Lady Blazers capture 15th straight win

VINCENNES, Ind. — The Vincennes University women’s basketball team ran its winning streak to 15 games at the P.E. Complex with an easy, 118-45 win over Kaskaskia on Wednesday.

The Trailblazers (18-3, 9-0 Region 24) used a 13-0 run in the second period to build a 48-16 lead at halftime. A 19-0 spree in the final period helped the Lady Blazers to continue to pull away. The 73-point final margin was the biggest VU lead of the game.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Jhala Henry (Jeffersonville, Ind.) led five players in double figures with 21 points. Freshmen Gara Jorge Garcia (Galdar, Spain) and Amani Brown (Terre Haute, Ind.) added 19 each, while freshman Elena Aznar Chamarro (Zaragoza, Spain) finished with 18. Sophomore Fess Hawkins (Bentonville, Ark.) netted 15.

Hawkins, the third-leading rebounder in NJCAA Division I with 14.2 per game, grabbed 12 in the win to lead VU to a 53-28 advantage on the boards.

Hawkins added a team-high four blocked shots, while Henry led the way with eight assists.

Brown came through with a team-high seven steals.

VU Coach Harry Meeks says. . .

“We were a little ragged, but I thought the girls played hard. We were able to push the ball up the floor and I think that helped us a good bit.”

“We played everybody consistently throughout the game, and that may have hurt our continuity at times. But everybody got an opportunity to play, which is good.”

“I feel like this team is coming around. This team works hard. I feel like it’s been a good group.”
