No. 9 Vincennes University men’s basketball team wins again

GODFREY, Ill. -  The ninth-ranked Vincennes University men’s basketball team won 86-50 over Lewis and Clark on Saturday.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Craig Porter (Terre Haute, Ind.) poured in 24 points, including four 3-pointers. He also tallied 10 rebounds, six assists, four blocks and one steal.

Sophomore Kevin Osawe (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) contributed 17 rebounds, 15 points, three 3-pointers and two assists. Osawe has 12 double-doubles this season.

Sophomore Chuka Mekkam (Portland, Ore.) chipped in 11 points, seven assists and a rebound.

Freshman Randy Tucker (Rock Island, Ill.) added 10 points and five rebounds.

Sophomore Colton Sandage (Bloomington, Ill.) finished among the assist leaders with five.

Notes

  • VU led 46-29 at halftime against Lewis and Clark.
  • The Trailblazers are now 17-2 overall and 8-1 in Region 24.
  • VU ranks third in NJCAA Division I in points per game allowed (60.3 per game).

Next up

The Trailblazers play Kaskaskia on Jan. 22 at the P.E. Complex at 7 p.m. EST.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
