No. 3 Trailblazers down John A. Logan, improve to 9-1

CARTERVILLE, Ill. - The third-ranked Vincennes University men’s basketball team rallied to a 69-65 win over John A. Logan on Tuesday.

The Trailblazers were down five points with less than five minutes on the clock. Sophomores Colton Sandage (Bloomington, Ill.) and Kevin Osawe (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) scored nine of VU’s final 11 points with less than 3 ½ minutes remaining. Sandage’s 3-pointer tied the game at 61-all. Osawe knocked down a 3-pointer to put VU up 66-63 with 1:52 left. Sandage made three of four free throws in the closing minute.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Craig Porter (Terre Haute, Ind.) totaled 18 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Chinedu Okanu (Gary, Ind.) added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Randy Tucker (Rock Island, Ill.) scored 10 points.


  • The Trailblazers are now 9-1 overall.
  • VU moved up three spots to No. 3 in the NJCAA Division I rankings on Monday. John A. Logan (4-4) received votes in the poll.
  • VU led 36-33 at halftime.

Next up

The Trailblazers play on Dec. 4 against Wabash Valley at 7 p.m. ET in the P.E. Complex.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
