Vincennes University baseball falls to No. 1 Wabash Valley

MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. - The Vincennes University baseball team fell 12-1 to the No. 1 in NJCAA Division I, Wabash Valley College on Wednesday.

VU Statistical Leaders

VU’s lone run came in the top of fourth inning when sophomore 1B Ryan Robison (New Albany, Ind.) hit a one-out double off the right field-center field wall. He moved up to third base on a wild pitch. Freshman DH Landen Freestone (Anderson, Ind.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Robison. 

Sophomore SS Sean Becker (Evansville, Ind.) and freshman C Nate McVaigh (Evansville, Ind.) hit singles.

On the mound, freshman RHP Cody Swimm (Hagerstown, Ind.) took the loss, giving him a 0-2 record. Freshman RHP Bailey Elliott (Hanover, Ind.) threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run. He faced 10 batters and struck out one in relief.

Next up

The Trailblazers (7-5) are scheduled to host a three-game series at Jerry Blemker Field against Edison State College (0-2) with a nine-inning game on Friday, March 6 at 3 p.m. EST followed by a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, March 7.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
