Vincennes University baseball leaves the weekend with a split record

VINCENNES, Ind. -  The Vincennes University baseball team played a doubleheader on Saturday, facing Clearly College in a 7-inning game, followed by another 7-inning game against South Suburban. VU then faced South Suburban on Sunday in a 9-inning game.

Game 1

VU started Saturday off early with a game against South Suburban, losing 4-3. All of the Blazers runs came in the 4th inning of the first game of the day.

Game 2

The Blazers came in to their second game of the day with a ready mindset to face Clearly College, winning 9-8 in extra innings. Sean Becker is credited with the RBI to put Jared Sermersheim in for the winning run. LHP Ryan Robison gets the win after 2.2 innings pitched allowing three hits, one run, one walk, and one strikeout.

Batting-wise, Sean Becker went 5-6 on the day. Trent Weiss was 1-3 with a triple and an RBI. Isaac lane was 3-5, with 3 singles, and an RBI. Jared Sermersheim was 3-3, with two walks, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.

Game 3

VU lost out on the second game against Cleary College 13-10 in a back and forth matchup.

Isaac lane batted 2-6, with a double, and an RBI. Landen freestone went 2 for 5, with a triple, and an RBI. Devon Rodgers was 2-4, with a triple, and an RBI. Max Flock 2-4, with an RBI, as well as a double. Jared Sermersheim was 2-4, with two stolen bases, and an RBI.

VU Coach Chris Barney says. . .

“Tuesday’s matchup is going to be a really big matchup, Wabash is currently the number one team in the nation. We need to stay focused for this one and really just need to play more solid.”

Notes

  • The Blazers overall season record now sits at 7-4

Next up

The Trailblazers travel to Div. I No.1 ranked Wabash Valley College on Tuesday. The game will be played in Mount Carmel, Ill. and will take place at 3 p.m. EST.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
