Vincennes University men’s basketball outpace Lewis & Clark early to earn win

VINCENNES, Ind. -  The Vincennes University men’s basketball team started Monday hot against Lewis & Clark, outscoring the visiting team 51-28 in the first half and going on a 17-0 uncontested streak in the opening 5 minutes of play at the P.E. Complex.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Colton Sandage (Bloomington, Ill.) put up 21 total points, 15 of those points coming from behind the arc. Sandage also had 8 rebounds. Sophomore Kevin Osawe (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) had 22 points, with 12 of those points from three. Sophomore Chuka Mekkam (Portland, Ore.) had 8 points, serving 5 assists, and 3 steals.

VU Coach Todd Franklin says. . .

“We’re going to have to play a lot more intense than this if we want to go on the run that we’re looking to make. We need our intensity to be better, and I think we saw that last week on the road. We can’t afford to be tired, we can’t afford to be relaxed, and that’s just how it is. I believe we have it in us, but we need to find it now.”

Notes

  • VU out rebounded Lewis & Clark 44-25 on the night
  • VU held the largest lead of the night by 35, and never trailed.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
