VU’'s Trey Kennedy grabs top JUCO pole vault of season; Three others qualify for national championship meet

TERRE HAUTE – A group of Vincennes University pole vaulters and throwers competed in an open meet Tuesday night at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and VU vaulter Trey Kennedy went 16 feet to registered the top vault among junior college competitors this season.

Also, Blake Marsee and Michael Boger both turned in vaults of 14 feet, 6 inches, to qualify for the March 6 and 7 NJCAA Indoor National Championship Meet in Albuquerque, NM.

The Trailblazers’ Ariana Kuhn qualified for the national meet as well by unleashing a throw of 51feet,  1158 inches in the weight throw.

As full teams, VU will head to Grand Valley State in Allendale, MI, on Feb. 13 and 14.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
