INA, Ill. -- When the Vincennes University women’s basketball team has had success this season, it’s started with the defense.

The Trailblazers defense had another strong performance Wednesday night at Rend Lake.

The Lady ‘Blazers held the overmatched Lady Warriors to single digit points in three of the four quarters, for a 90-44 romp.

With the win, VU improves to 15-6 on the season.

The Trailblazers jumped out to a 23-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play and led 44-18 at the break.

Jaynice Stovall paced the Trailblazers Wednesday night.

The starting guard tallied a game-high 20 points to go along with nine steals and four assists.

Stovall entered the game second among all NJCAA Division I players in steals with 89.

The Trailblazers finished the game with 26 swipes as a team.

Nickelle O’Neil added seven steals, off the Trailblazers bench, to go along with seven points.

Freshman Reeva Hammelman finished with her second straight game in double digits with 16 points. The North Knox grad also came away with three steals.

Fess Hawkins recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.

Grace Yocum came off the bench to turn her best collegiate game. The freshman post player matched her career high of eight points (for the fourth time) to go along with a new career high of eight rebounds. 

The Trailblazers return to the P.E. Complex on Saturday against Kaskaskia.

Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. with the No. 2 Trailblazer men to follow.
