December 8, 2018 / Lady Trailblazers bounce back with win

CENTRALIA, Ill. -- After a disappointing loss on the road Wednesday night, the Vincennes University women’s basketball team hoped to get back to its winning ways on Saturday.

A struggling Kaskaskia team was just what the Lady Trailblazers needed to get back on track.

Ivanda Hudjakova led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Trailblazers with 12 points en route to a 74-37 win over its District P foes.

With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-1 against district opponents.

The Trailblazers started slowly in previous games.

Not on Saturday.

VU led 23-2 after the first frame and never looked back.

Fess Hawkins and Sofya Besedina both recorded double-doubles in the win.

Hawkins finished with 11 points and 10 boards, while Besedina came off the bench for her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Jaynice Stovall added to her National Junior College Athletic Association Division I steals lead with eight more on Saturday to go along with seven points and four assists.

Cristina De La Cruz continues to give VU a spark off the bench as the sophomore guard contributed seven points and five steals in the win.

The Trailblazers return to the court on Dec. 17 at Lincoln Trail.
