February 20, 2019 / Trailblazers hold strong at No. 2 in national poll

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s basketball team is No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I national poll, occupying that spot for the fourth consecutive week.

The Trailblazers received 385 points and one first-place vote in the poll released Wednesday.

VU took a 25-1 overall record and 10-game win streak in to Wednesday’s home game against Lewis and Clark. The Trailblazers avenged their only loss of the season with a dominating 94-74 win over nationally ranked Olney Central last Saturday. VU has been ranked as high as No. 1 this season. This is the 10th straight week it has been among the top four.

The top three teams in the poll remained unchanged for the fourth week in a row. Florida SouthWestern State is No. 1 with 15 first-place votes and 398 points. Following VU, Coffeyville stayed at No. 3 with 368 points.

Ranger is No. 4 in the poll, while Sheridan rounds out the top five. John A. Logan is No. 7.  With the loss to VU, Olney Central dropped from No. 14 to No. 22.

The VU men’s basketball team will celebrate Sophomore Night Saturday at the P.E. Complex. The sophomores will be honored prior to the start of the game against Southwestern Illinois.  Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
