VU Foundation names Oscar L. Dunn Memorial Scholarship recipients

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Foundation has announced the recipients of the Oscar L. Dunn Memorial Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic year.  The recipients are Hannah Atwood, Grant Hamilton, and Dalton Crabtree, all 2018 graduates of Vincennes Lincoln High School.

Hannah Atwood is the daughter of Sara Atwood and the late Timothy Atwood. Her achievements and activities include: Best Overall Freshman 2014 for Pride of the Green Band; Best Overall Pit Percussion member for Pride of the Green Band, two years; National Honor Society, two years; Tri-M, one year; and Vincennes Indoor Percussion, four years. Hannah is employed by Zip and Sip.

Grant Hamilton is the son of Eric and Angela Hamilton.  His achievements and activities include: National Honor Society, two years; Vincennes Lincoln Football, four years; letter in football; baseball, four years; and letter in baseball. Grant volunteers at the Indiana Military Museum and the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous.

Dalton Crabtree is the son of Dwayne Crabtree and Angela Crabtree. His activities and achievements include: Hoosier Boys State Honor Band; Student of the Week; Artist of the Week; National Honor Society, two years; Modern Music Masters, three years; Class Treasurer, two years; Vincennes University Jazz Band, three years; Big Bokeh Band; Pride of Green Marching Band, five years; Jazz Band, four years; VIP Drumline, four years; Pep Band, four years; Indiana Bandmaster Association Southwest All Region Honor Band; Indiana Bandmaster Association All District High School; Grand Dougherty Award Winner, 2015; Woody Herman Jazz Award, 2017; Pride of the Green Outstanding Senior, 2017; and Hoosier Boys State. Dalton is employed at Hardee’s, J.C. Penney’s, and as a Clark Middle School tutor.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

Oscar L. Dunn was a dedicated teacher, educator, and humanitarian who taught mathematics and music to generations of Vincennes Lincoln High School and Vincennes University students.  The scholarship was established in his memory to offer assistance to qualified students graduating from Vincennes Lincoln High School attending Vincennes University for the purpose of pursuing a higher education.

Recipients are selected on the basis of their scholastic record and/or financial circumstances by the Oscar L. Dunn Scholarship Committee.  The scholarships are for two years, provided the students maintain the required academic credentials.

In advancing the University’s missions of higher education and community service, the VU Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, administers endowments and contributions established by corporate and individual gifts as designated.  During the 2017-18 school year the Foundation awarded in excess of $1.7 million dollars in scholarships to more than 1,300 VU students.
