December 18, 2017 / VU healthcare training programs begin in February

VINCENNES, Ind. - Vincennes University will offer short-term, noncredit, healthcare training programs at various sites throughout Indiana for Spring semester 2018. All of the programs will begin the first week of February.

The state-approved Dental Assistant Training with Dental Radiographer program is a 17-week course that will familiarize students with all areas of entry-level dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice.  Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a VU Certificate of Completion and be eligible to take the dental radiographer certification exam. The course fee is $2,099 and includes textbooks. Locations include the VU Jasper Campus; Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis; and Walker Career Center, Indianapolis.

The Phlebotomy Technician Training program is a 15-week course that includes 90 classroom hours of training, hands-on practice, and clinicals. The program prepares students to be an entry-level phlebotomist in a hospital, clinic, and laboratory. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a VU Certificate of Completion and be eligible to take the National Healthcare Association exam. The course fee is $1,615 and includes textbooks and certification exam fee. Classes will be held at the Vincennes Campus.

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training program is a 14-week course offering students the opportunity to perform clinical procedures, including administering medications, performing blood draws, performing an electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and maintaining clinical equipment in an ambulatory care setting. This program includes lecture and lab classroom hours and an 80-hour clinical externship. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a VU Certificate of Completion and be eligible to take the National Healthcare Association exam. The course fee is $2,659 and includes textbook and certification exam fee. This course will be offered at the VU Jasper Campus; Ft. Branch; Bedford; Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis; Walker Career Center, Indianapolis; Noblesville; North Vernon; and Elwood.

The new Sterile Processing Technician Training program is designed to provide the knowledge and basic skills needed to work in a hospital, surgical center, or other facility that utilizes a central sterile supply department. Students will also learn to keep records associated with sterilization monitors, orders, charges to patients, and inventory. The 15-week program includes 80 classroom hours and an optional 120-hour clinical externship. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician Certification Exam. The course fee is $2,149 and includes textbook and materials. Classes will be offered at Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis.
