Lady Trailblazers Roll Past Lincoln Trail

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University women’s volleyball team captured their 13th win of the season in straight sets: 25-5, 25-15, 25-18, thanks in part to a great team effort at the VU P.E. Complex.

The Lady Blazers came out strong in the first set, rattling off seven-straight points before the Lady Statesmen would stop the bleeding. However, great serving by sophomore Abby Bigler, Freshman Allison Ruddick, and Hannah Bullock allowed the Blazers to cruise to a set one win, 25-to-5.

The 2nd set was harder fought. The Lady Statesmen managed to keep it within 3-to-4 points before a big run by the Trailblazers powered by Sophomores Erica Kik, Genesis Milisde, and Gabrielle Medrado attacking the net allowed them to pull-away to a comfortable 10-point 25-to-15 set two victory over Lincoln Trail.

In the final set, the Lady Statesmen came out hard, fighting for their lives. However, the Lady Blazers again proved to be too much. A great team effort propelled VUVB to a 25-to-18 final set win, and a 3-to-0, straight set Victory over LTC.

In the stats column, The Lady Trailblazers were led in kills by Erica Kik & Genesis Milisde, who racked up 9 & 8 kills respectively. Gabrielle Medrado, for the 15th straight time this season, led VU in set assists with 20. Sophomore defense specialists Hannah Bullock and Abby Bigler notched the top two spots in the dig column with 20 for Bullock, and 10 for Bigler. Hannah Bullock, Allison Ruddick, and Abby Bigler tallied 2 Aces a-piece. Finally, Erica Kik and Bayle Lippincott rounded out the stats column with 4 & 3 blocks respectively.

Coach Sien said after the match, “It was a good match to get everyone involved. I thought Erica did a nice job after being out for a few matches. We ran our middle attack very well also. This was a good tune up for what will be a very competitive weekend of play at the Parkland Tournament.”

The Lady Blazers will return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Parkland Tournament in Champaign, Illinois!

We Believe Sports

National Junior College Athletic Association Logo

At VU, we believe sports play an important role in the overall purpose of an educational institution. We support a well-rounded intercollegiate sports program for both men and women and have a strong presence in the NJCAA where we can claim several national championships. But we are equally proud of our individual All-American and All-American Academic athletes who have used their talent to continue their education at four-year colleges.
