On March 7, 2026, Loren L. Myers represented more than just himself in Columbus, Ohio. He carried with him a year of disciplined preparation, a lifelong commitment to martial arts, and the steady focus that also guides his work in campus safety at Vincennes University.

Myers competed at a major international martial arts tournament hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger, an event drawing athletes from more than 80 countries and showcasing disciplines ranging from judo and boxing to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, and karate. Myers entered the karate division, competing in Weapons Kata, traditional Kata, and Kumite.

Myers and his competitors were judged on form, control, and technical mastery-down to the smallest movement. He competed in Men's Heavyweight Kumite (ages 30-50), where he captured the gold medal. Following that victory, he was invited to face the 18-30-year-old champion. Myers
won that match as well.

He went on to earn additional gold medals in Men's Black Belt Kata and Weapons Kata, performing a sword kata with a katana and receiving judges' scores consistently above 9.0 on a 10-point scale.

Myers trained for a full year leading up to the competition, balancing preparation with his professional responsibilities. He also owns and operates Shotokan Decker Dojo in Bicknell, Indiana, where he continues to teach and mentor students.

For Myers, the experience was about more than medals. For him, it was about discipline, family pride, and carrying forward a lifelong commitment to excellence.
