Dear Alumni and Friends,
Two hundred and twenty-five years ago, Indiana Territory Governor William Henry Harrison saw education as essential to building a new region's future. From Jefferson Academy in 1801 to incorporation as The Vincennes University in 1806, known as “Territorial University,” VU was founded on a simple but enduring belief: education changes lives, strengthens communities, and creates opportunity.
That mission is our legacy, and it still drives us today.
Higher education faces real challenges, including shifting demographics and growing questions about cost, value, and sustainability. VU is meeting those challenges the way it always has, with determination, grit, and an unwavering focus on students. As one of the nation's oldest public universities, founded on a promise of access and opportunity, we remain committed to making high-quality education attainable. Our strong partnerships with global employers and the success of our graduates show that VU continues to prepare students for lives of purpose, achievement, and service.
That is why your support matters so much.
As you read this issue, I hope you will see that Fueling the Legacy is about more than honoring our history. It is about the first-generation student who earns a scholarship and discovers what she is truly capable of. It is about mentors, programs, and experiences that open doors, build confidence, and change the course of a life.
You will also see what has always defined this university: people who believe in VU enough to stay engaged, give back, and help move it forward. Your generosity has helped VU remain a place of excellence, relevance, and transformation for generation after generation.
I am deeply grateful to the alumni, donors, volunteers, and friends who continue to invest in Vincennes University. Your support strengthens programs, fuels student success, and helps ensure that VU's next chapter is every bit as meaningful as the ones that came before it.
Thank you for believing in this university and for helping fuel its legacy for generations to come.
With gratitude,
Chuck
