#22 Lady Blazers Slated to Battle Kaskaskia in 1st Round of the District P Tournament

The #22 natinally ranked, and #2 district seeded Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers will face-off against the #7 district seeded Kaskaskia Blue Angles at 7:00 p.m. tonight, at the VU P.E. Complex! The game marks the first game of the District P Tournament. The winner of which, will punch a ticket to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the NJCAA Women’s National Basketball Championships.

The Lady Blazers finished the regular season with a 25-and-5 record, and finished 16-and-2 in district play. The Trailblazers only losses in district play on the year came to the hands of #15 seed, and rival, Wabash Valley College, who comes into the tournament having secured the #1 seed. However, the Lady Blazers had a remarkable regular season. Sophomore Laurhen Pickett averaged 19.7 ppg, shot 65.6% from the floor, and secured 8.8 rebounds per contest. Pickett’s ppg and shooting percentage rank 12th & 2nd in the NJCAA respectively.

Freshman stand-out Ladellia Maggett also had a phenomenal year. Maggett averaged 18.8 ppg, 6.3 assists, and 4.4 rebounds a contest. She ranks 18th in the NJCAA in ppg. Not to mention, Maggett knocked down an impressive 61 3-point field goals on the year, and handed out the 4th most assists in the NJCAA of any guard on the season with 186.

Sophomores Milana Matias, Sheyanne Street, Unique Conner, Kayla Mallett, and freshmen Myka Roth & Claudia Stan played key minutes, and played great basketball down the stretch to help the Lady Blazers clinch the #2 seed in the district tournament, and record a great regular season record. All of the above mentioned accomplishments are incredible considering that due to injury and illness, the Lady Trailblazers lost the equivalent of another starting-five at one point in the year.

Come out and support your VU Lady Trailblazers as on their quest for Lubbock, tonight, at 7:00 p.m., at the VU P.E. Complex, against Kaskaskia! Go VU!
