#5 Trailblazers Continue Their Winning Ways with Lopsided Victory at Lincoln Trail

ROBINSON, IL – The #5 nationally ranked Vincennes University Trailblazers continued their winning ways tonight with a resounding 99-to-61 win over District 16 opponent Lincoln Trail thanks to hot shooting from behind the arc from freshman Isaiah Tisdale, and another strong night from national player of the year caliber candidate Chris Darrington.

As head coach Todd Franklin said in his post-game interview, “From the tip, we played a much better game than we had at Olney or against Lewis & Clark. We cut down on the mistakes, we were more focused, and we got more people involved, right from the start even.”. Coach Franklin hit the nail on the head. The Trailblazers jumped out quickly on the Statesmen of Lincoln Trail, and were up double-digits within the first 6 minutes of the ball-game. Cold shooting from Lincoln Trail, tight defense by VU, and unselfish play by the Blazers gave them an early, 46-to-25, 21-point advantage at the half. After one half of play, Tisdale led all scorers with 12-points, Darrington had 9, and Hansen had 8. The Trailblazers also knocked down 8 triples, in the first-half alone!

The second-half would get even more ugly for the Statesmen of Lincoln Trail as VU’s unselfish play continued, excellent ball-movement, and refusal to give them anything easy around the bucket caused them a lot of trouble early. VU would get up by as many as 40-points in the second-half before the Statesmen would start to put together a little bit of a run to close out the game thanks to knocking down some late 3’s. The #5 Trailblazers would roll to a 99-to-61 win over Lincoln Trail, clinching at least a share of the District 16 regular season title, and winning their 26th game of the season in the process.

The Blazers were led in scoring on the night by Isaiah Tisdale, who poured in 24 points, 15 of-which were from 3-point territory. Chris Darrington continued his stellar season scoring the basketball as he totaled up 19 points. Darrington is now just 66 points shy of being the 37th Trailblazer to join the 1,000-point club. The feat is incredibly impressive considering that all VU players only have 2 years to reach the historic mark. Fellow sophomore Nate Hansen would round-out the double-figure efforts for the evening for VU with 14.

The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team will look to capture sole possession of the District 16 regular season title at the VU P.E. Complex on Saturday against Southeastern Illinois. Saturday will also be a special night becauseit is one of the final 2 home games for the Vincennes University Trailblazers this season! We sincerely hope that you can make your way out to watch a phenomenal basketball team! Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. EST! We urge all available to come-out and support what has been a terrific ball-club, and a terrific group of young men, who have given so much to Vincennes University. We sincerely hope that there will be a big turn-out to watch the #5 team in the country tip-off at 7:00 p.m. EST! Go Blazers!
