Anderson, Moreno sign with Trailblazers

VINCENNES, Ind. – Rising thrower Janine Anderson and distance runner Meagan Moreno have signed with the Vincennes University women’s track and field program.

Moreno will also compete for the cross country team.

Anderson was the top discus thrower at Vincennes Rivet High School. She won the Blue Chip Conference discus title with a throw of 110 feet. She also competed in the shot put and 4x100-meter relay.

“Janine has great potential to excel at the college level,”  VU Interim Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Chris Gafner said. “She won her conference meet in the discus less than two months after she first took up the event. At VU, she will likely focus on the discus and hammer throw.”

Moreno ran for Morton (Illinois) High School. She set a personal record in a three-mile cross country race by completing the course in 17 minutes, 52.3 seconds. Her career records on the track are 2:26.92 in the 800-meter run, 5:22.65 in the 1,600 and 11:18.93 in the 3,200.

“Meagan has had a tremendous high school career,” Gafner said. “I look for her to anchor our distance squad this year. She has great range, and a terrific work ethic.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
