Baseball Adds Vincennes Native Shawn Kahre to Coaching Staff

Vincennes, IN- The Vincennes University Baseball team has added former VU stand-out and Vincennes Lincoln product Shawn Kahre to the coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.

Kahre is a graduate of the class of 2011 from Lincoln High School, located in Vincennes, IN. After graduating from Lincoln, Kahre attended Vincennes University where he served as an outfielder and pitcher for the Trailblazers during the 11-12 and 12-13 seasons. Kahre then continued his academic and baseball career at Kentucky Wesleyan College where he found continued success as a pitcher. After graduating from KWC in 2015, Kahre played a season of professional baseball for the White Sands Puffish in New Mexico. Although the club had welcomed Kahre back after the previous season, he felt a call to coaching, and what better place to get a start as a collegiate coach than at your alma mater and home town?

Kahre will join Assistant Coach Cole Vicars who is entering his 3rd season as an Assistant for the Trailblazers, and Head Coach Chris Barney, who will be entering his 10th season at the helm for the blue, gold, and white.

Coach Barney said of Kahre, “We are excited to have Shawn back as part of the Trailblazer family. He will be able to help out in all phases, and his experiences at the Junior College, 4-year, and professional level will really help our guys to grow and develop. He will be a great asset to our staff.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
