Boston, Gibson, Umbrello lead VU to 4th place at Boilermaker Classic

LAFAYETTE – The Vincennes University Varsity Bowling Team garnered a top-5 finish and the Trailblazers’ junior varsity squad was in the top 10 at the Boilermaker Classic Saturday and Sunday at Arrowhead Lanes in Lafayette.

The VU Varsity Trailblazers racked up 7,591 pins to grab fourth place in the field of 16 varsity and 14 JV teams. VU’s junior varsity bowlers knocked down 7,094 pins for seventh place.

Vincennes’ Varsity effort was led by sophomore Will Boston (964 pins; 5 games; 192 average) and seniors Jesse Gibson (946 pins; 5 games; 189 average) and Corey Umbrello (945 pins; 5 games; 189 average). Gibson had VU’s High Series at 608 and freshman Tyler Perry recorded the Trailblazers’ High Game with a score of 237.

Other VU scores from the varsity squad were:
·    Freshman Tommy Tkacz (683 pins; 4 games; 170 average),
·    Perry (580 pins; 3 games; 193 average), and,
·    Freshman Qwadaris Rembert (519 pins; 3 games; 173 average).

Trailblazer Junior Varsity individual performances over the weekend were:
·    Freshman Nick Deaton (981 pins; 5 games; 196 average),
·    Freshman Isaac Milleson (906 pins; 5 games; 181 average),
·    Freshman Zach Kendrick (905 pins; 5 games; 181 average),
·    Freshman Tyler Lewis (840 pins; 5 games; 168 average), and,
·    Freshman Ryan Benslay (800 pins; 5 games; 160 average).

Up next for VU are the Nov. 27 and 28 Team Match Games in St. Louis.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
