Changes announced in VU’s 2016 Outdoor Track & Field schedule

Vincennes University Track & Field’s 2016 Outdoor Schedule has been modified from its original form to accommodate a home-and-home agreement between VU and Marian University.

The schedule also reflects a change by the National Junior College Athletic Association in the dates for the Div. I Track & Field Outdoor National Championship Meet in Levelland, TX.

VU Coach Chris Gafner said the Trailblazers have moved the VU Bill Smith Challenge to March 24 at 12 p.m. Noon to fit into Marian’s spring schedule. The Knights’ participation in the Bill Smith Challenge at the VU Track & Field Complex will be a little more than a week before the Trailblazers travel to Indianapolis for a meet hosted by Marian.

The NJCAA Outdoor National Championship Meet will be May 17-19. Hosted by South Plains College, the change in dates prevents as many conflicts with graduation dates in the Levelland area, Gafner said. The national meet will be 12 days after the start of the NJCAA Super Regional Meet that VU will host. More details and starting times for the May 5-7 event will be available in the coming weeks.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
