Changes announced in VU’s upcoming outdoor track & field schedule

Vincennes University Track & Field Coach Chris Gafner has announced a change in the Trailblazers’ upcoming outdoor season schedule.

VU’s second meet of the season will be April 1 at Marian University in Indianapolis. The meet was originally scheduled for April 2. April 1 is a Friday.

In addition, the NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet has been shifted to May 17-19. The change was announced earlier in the school year, but VU wants to ensure that fans and student-athletes’ families are aware of the change.

The complete 2016 Outdoor Season begins Thursday, March 24, when the Trailblazers host the annual Bill Smith Challenge. The meet’s events will begin at 2 p.m. at the VU Track & Field Complex.

The home meet will be followed by the aforementioned April 1 trip to Marian in Indianapolis. From there, VU is set to travel to the April 8 and 9 Bellarmine Invitational in Louisville, KY, and then the Indiana Little State Championships on April 15 and 16 at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion.

VU will close out the regular season with a return trip to Bellarmine on April 29 and 30.

The Trailblazers will host the May 5-7 NJCAA Super Regional Meet and wrap up the outdoor season at the national championship meet in Levelland, TX.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
