Christian Wells added to VU basketball’s 2019 signing class

VINCENNES, Ind. – Christian Wells, a forward from Muncie, is joining the 2019 Vincennes University men’s basketball signing class.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Wells is the son of former NBA star and 1998 first-round draft pick Bonzi Wells.

Christian Wells played last season for Washington Academy, a post-grad program in Greenville, North Carolina. He produced stellar numbers, averaging 22 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

Wells played at Muncie Central High School prior to Washington Academy. He averaged 16.4 points and 8.1 rebounds as a senior during the 2017-18 season.

“The lefty was a little bit of a late bloomer, but he was still a two-time all-district performer at Muncie Central and was a honorable mention all-state player,” VU Men’s Basketball Coach Todd Franklin said. “He really blossomed this year during his post-grad season and had Division I interest, but really wanted to come to VU and elevate his game and offers.

“I really believe that Christian is an ascending player who could really have an impact on our team.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
