Dossett's offensive outburst leads VU Women's Basketball to 10th win of season

Sophomore Brooke Dossett hit four 3-pointers and knocked down 10 of 12 free throws on her way to a game-high 28 points Tuesday night as the Vincennes University Women's Basketball Team turned away visiting Kaskaskia, 67-62. The win improved the Trailblazers to 10-1 on the season.

VU also got 15 points from sophomore Kyra Tucker. Kaskaskia was led by Tashyra Burrough's 18 points.

The Trailblazer struggled shooting the ball, hitting only 19-of-60 field goal attempts overall. However, VU was saved by their 24-for-30 performance at the free throw line (including 14-of-16 in the second half) - which eclipsed the Blue Angels' 9-for-13 free throw shooting. The Trailblazers also won the rebounding battle, 46-32.

VU and Kaskaskia, which entered the game 0-6 on the season, were tied 12-all at the end of the first quarter. The Trailblazers outdistanced the Blue Angels, 20-14 in the second stanza to open up a 32-26 lead at intermission. In the second half, the teams played almost dead-even offensively and the Trailblazers held on the for the victory. But it wasn't easy. It was a one-possession game until freshman Joshlynn King scored in the closing seconds to put it out of Kaskaskia's reach.

The Trailblazers will next travel to Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, KY, on Monday.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
