Hanna Wise to chase her running future near her “old home” at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Hanna Wise – a recently graduated Vincennes University runner – has chosen Austin Peay as her next stop in her collegiate track & field career.
Along with offering a chance to continue in her academic major and shadow professionals in the medical field, the Clarksville, TN-based, Ohio Valley Conference-member institution is like a trip home for Wise.
“I was born there, so it’s like ‘old home’ for me,” Wise said, referring to her father Doug being stationed at nearby Fort Campbell, KY, at the time of her birth. “(Clarksville, TN) is a great community too. When I’ve gone there, in some ways, I didn’t want to come back.”
Wise will become immersed in the Austin Peay and Clarksville communities as a member of the Governors’ team in 2015-16. A versatile runner for the Trailblazers the past two years, she hopes to be a reliable contributor to one of Austin Peay’s relay squads or groups of sprinters – or both.
The Vincennes Rivet High School product was a member of the VU school record-setting Women’s Distance Medley Relay squad that turned in a second place finish (12:18.66) at the 2014 NJCAA Indoor National Championship Meet and earned NJCAA All-American honors. She garnered United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American honors in the same event in 2015.
Wise also contributed to the VU record-setting 4x800 Meter Relay team (9:54.84) and holds the third-best time in Trailblazer program history in the outdoor 400 Meter Dash (59.05). Finally, Wise was part of the outdoor 4x400 Meter Relay squad that owns VU’s third-best time (4:01.11).
"Hanna has been a great contributor and team leader. She has anchored our sprint crew the last two years and she will bring a wealth of experience to the team at Austin Peay,” VU Coach Chris Gafner said. “Hanna is a perfectionist. She has a drive to be the best that she can be and that drive will help her succeed at the D-1 level."

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
