Klyuchnikova Signs with Fresno State

Vincennes, IN- School record holder and defending outdoor national champion Varvara Klyuchnikova signed to continue her academic and athletic career for the Fresno State Bulldogs this afternoon.

“I was very excited. I really like the facilities, the athletes, the coaches, the weather, the campus…. I like everything about Fresno State! I’m excited to be a Bulldog!” said Klyuchnikova after signing her letter of intent to compete for the Division I, Western Athletic Conference, Fresno State Bulldogs.

While at VU Klyuchnikova has had a record setting career. Klyuchnikova is the indoor and outdoor school record holder in the high jump at 5’10 ¾”. She also is the indoor and outdoor record holder in the triple jump at 38’4 ¼”. Klyuchnikova has finished runner-up in the high jump twice indoors, and was the national champion last year outdoors in the event.

Head Track and Field Coach Chris Gafner said, “Varvara is a really hard worker. She is an excellent athlete, an excellent student, and is very, very coachable. She genuinely wants to be the best, and works hard every day to make that happen. I have no doubt that she is going to huge for Fresno State next year.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
