Men’s Basketball Drops Tough Road Loss at John A. Logan

Carterville, IL – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team brought an impressive 10-0 record into John A. Logan over the weekend. VU had impressive early season wins at then #17 ranked Indian Hills, at Kaskaskia, and at Shawnee. However, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and that perfect 10-and-0 record came to an unfortunate end at John A. Logan on Saturday afternoon.

The Trailblazers struggled with foul trouble early, and coach Todd Franklin was forced to go to their bench very early in the game. Foul Trouble, combined with the fact that John A. Logan shot a boiling 8-of-12 from behind the 3-point arc for the game put VU in a tough hole going late into the game. Vincennes managed to shoot a solid 44% from the floor to the game, but the early foul trouble was too much to overcome late.  The Volunteers of John A. Logan would sink key free throws in the 4th quarter to pull away to an 80-73 win. John A. Logan shot a season-high 34 free throws compared to a mere 22 for the Trailblazers, and the loss marks the first loss of the season for VU.

Big performances for the Trailblazers on the night came from Sophomore Chris Darrington, who had a team-high 23 points, and shot a near perfect 6-of-7 from the free-throw stripe. Fellow Sophomore Jaelin Sanford added a season best 16 points and 3 assists, and Freshman Rade Kukobat rounded out big scoring performances for Vincennes with 15 points.

The VU men’s basketball team will look to rebound Tuesday at the VU P.E. Complex against Lindsey Wilson JV. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. EST!

VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
