Men’s Basketball Scorches Nets En Route to Big Home Victory in Final Day of Kiwanis Invitational

It was raining triples at the VU P.E. Complex on Saturday night as the Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team routed Kankakee Community College 101-60 in the final game of the Kiwanis Invitational.

Freshman Isaiah Tisdale scored the game’s first points nearly right off the tip, and VU would go on a 6-0 run to start the game, leading to a Kankakee timeout to regroup. The Trailblazers never looked back. They would mount a 45-23 halftime lead by capitalizing on shooting 52% from the field in the first half, and forcing 16 turnovers.

VU would catch fire from 3 point land in the second half by draining 12 of its 18 three’s for the game, and shooting a red-hot 60% from triple territory. The Trailblazers would use their hot shooting to hold a 69-37 lead with 12:25 to go before eventually pulling away to win by 41 points.

The Trailblazers were led in scoring and three point field goals by sophomore Nate Hansen. Hansen would knock down 7 of 9 three point tries, and record a game high 33 points. Backcourt runningmate Isaiah Tisdale added 22 points and five assists, while freshman Jamal Parks led VU in rebounding with 10.

The Trailblazer Men’s basketball team is back on the hardwood Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the VU P.E. Complex against Don Bosco Prep in the Sodexo Classic.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
