Men’s Basketball Welcomes Casey Wyllie as Newest Member of Coaching Staff

Vincennes, IN – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team has added a new member to the coaching staff by hiring former Louisiana Tech Graduate Assistant Coach Casey Wyllie for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Wylie is a native of Dwight, Illinois, about an hour and a half southwest of Chicago. After graduating from Dwight High School, he attended John A. Logan College where he obtained an Associate’s degree in Applied Sciences. From there, Wyllie attended the University of Southern Illinois Carbondale where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Workforce education.

While attending SIU-Carbondale, Wyllie was the Head Freshman Coach at Benton High School. The team accrued a 43-and-23 record under Coach Wyllie over a 3-year span, went 21-and-0 during his 3rd season at the school, won the Goreville Tourney, the Benton Freshman Invitational, and twice were the Mcleansboro Tournament Champions.

After graduating from SIU-Carbondale, Wylie was hired as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Louisiana Tech University. While at Louisiana Tech, he earned his Master’s degree in Kinesiology & Sports Administration. Wyllie also helped coach the team to a 23-and-10 record both years. During those 2 seasons, Alex Hamilton was named the conference USA Player of the Year, Erik McCree was twice named All-Conference USA, Jacobi Boynkins was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive team, as well as 3rd team All-Conference USA, DaQuan Bracey was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and Jalen Harris was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.

Wyllie will be replacing former VU Assistant Coach Rusty Elmore who took a position as an Assistant Coach at Moberly Area Community College earlier this summer.

Coach Todd Franklin said of adding Wyllie to his coaching staff, “We are excited to have Casey on our staff this year. He is young, energetic, and came very highly recommended by the entire coaching staff at Louisiana Tech. He has ties to the Southern Illinois area, which will greatly help with recruiting, and we think he will do a great job here.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
