MicGill continues to roll in leading No. 1 VU over Kankakee

Sophomore Donte' McGill broke the 20-point mark for the second straight game whenb he scored 23 points Saturday to lead the NJCAA No. 1 VU Men's Basketball Team to a 79-66 win over Kankakee in the Trailblazers' second game of the Sodexo Classic at the VU P.E. Complex.
McGill was 10-of-14 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point land, to lead another balanced Trailblazer scoring attack. Sopomore Mychal Mulder had 15 (including three treys) and freshman Ronnie Rousseau and sophomore Charles Foster finished with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Cavaliers were led by Elliot Sentence's 17 and DeVantae Price's 16 points.
VU (6-0) was never able to put Kankakee (3-2) on the ropes. Rousseau's rebound and bucket as he was fouled, plus the freshman guard's free throw to complete the 3-point play, gave the Trailblazers a 20-14 lead with 9:59 to go before the half. A trey by Mulder a short time later helped VU to a 10-point lead at 30-20 with just over 6:00 to go before intermission. But Kankakee stormed right back and sliced the lead before Mulder answered with a steal and a dunk to break a three-minute drought for the Trailblazers.During that time, Kankakee had scored seven unanswered and it was 32-27 VU with 2:14 left. Eventually, the Trailblazers were ahead 35-29 at the break.
In the second, Rousseau drained a 3-pointer for a 66-53 VU lead with 6:35 remaining, and McGill led the charge that enabled VU to increase the advantage to 72-55 at the 5:00 mark. From there, VU maintained its lead in the 10-15 point range for the victory.
VU will host Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the VU P.E. Complex.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
