NJCAA No. 1 Trailblazers top SIC, 87-70, for 28th win of season

Sophomore Charles Foster and freshman Keith Mack both had 19 points to lead four players in double figures as the VU Men's Basketball Team topped Southeastern Illinois 87-70 Sunday at the VU P.E. Complex.

The win extended VU's undefeated record to 28-0 as Foster knocked down five 3-pointers and sophomore Mychal Mulder pulled down eight rebounds Sophomore Donte' McGill hit 9-of-10 free throws.

The Trailblazers shot 64 percent in the second half to pull away from a 39-27 halftime lead VU had a 23-point advantage at one point in the second half VU's 24-for-30 shooting at the free throw line also helped offset the Falcons' six second half treys

VU will head to Lewis & Clark in Godfrey, IL, on Wednesday and then return home on Saturday, Feb. 28, to host Kaskaskia. That night will be a men's-women's doubleheader with the women starting at 5 p.m. and the men tipping off at about 7 p.m. Along with being Sophomore Night for both teams, the Saturday date will also be VU's Play4Kay event that had to be rescheduled from Feb. 21.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
