No. 1-ranked Trailblazers remain perfect with win over Ancilla; Foster, Patty pace balanced attack

OLNEY, Ill. - The NJCAA No. 1 Vincennes University Men's Basketball Team continued to outrebound opponents by a sizeable margin and get balanced scoring when the Trailblazers posted a 42-31 advantage on the boards and placed four players in double figures in scoring Saturday night vs. Ancilla. As a result, VU posted a 78-57 victory over the Chargers in the third game of the Olney Central Rotary Classic.

Sophomore guard Charles Foster paced the Trailblazers (4-0) in scoring with 17 points. VU also got 16 points from sophomore Mychal Mulder, 14 by sophomore A.J. Patty and 13 by sophomore Everett Clemons. Freshman Keith Mack finished with nine points.

Mack and Patty were both on the verge of double-doubles for the game. Mack had 10 boards (including six on the offensive end) and Patty pulled down nine rebounds as part of the Trailblazers' 42-31 advantage on the boards. Patty also sank 6-of-7 from the free throw line and registered two steals. Clemons dished out six assists and Foster handed off four.

Juwan Johnson led Ancilla with 13 points, while Eric Waddell had 12 and Mike Wickliff 10.
VU was 13-of-31 (42 percent), including 3-of-7 (43 percent) from 3-point range, in the first half. The Trailblazers were aided by a 10-of-11 performance at the line in the first 20 minutes (17-of-22 overall) to hold a 39-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half, VU matched the first half scoring total with another 39 points and outpaced the Chargers for the victory.

The Trailblazers will host the Sodexo Classic on Nov. 14 and 15 at the VU P.E. Complex. VU will take on St. Clair County at 7 p.m. on the first night and face Kankakee at 7 p.m. on the second evening. John A. Logan is the fourth team in the field. JAL will play Kankakee on the first night and St. Clair County on the second night in a pair of 5 p.m. tip-offs.

Down the road, the Trailblazers will host Lindsey Wilson at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19 at the P.E. Complex.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
