No. 1 VU Trailblazer men receive all 16 first place votes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball Team received all 16 first place votes among ballots cast for this week’s NJCAA Div. I Men’s Basketball Poll, which was released earlier today from the NJCAA Headquarters in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Trailblazers (27-0) received 350 points, outdistancing No. 2 Hill’s 336 points to retain the top spot yet again this week. With the exception of a two-week stretch in the middle of the season, VU has been No. 1 in all regular season rankings and the preseason NJCAA poll.

This week, runner-up Hill (26-1) is followed by third place Northwest Florida State (25-1), No. 4 Connors State (25-1) and fifth place Southern Idaho (27-1).

The rest of the Top 10 is:
·    6. Eastern Florida State (26-3),
·    7. Trinity Valley (24-3),
·    8. Butler (25-2),
·    9. Indian Hills (25-3), and,
·    10. Harcum (25-3).

VU will host Southeastern Illinois Saturday and then travel to Lewis & Clark on Wednesday before closing out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 28, by hosting Kaskaskia.

The NJCAA District 16 Tournament will be March 4-6 at Rend Lake College in Ina, IL.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
