No. 24 Vincennes University takes round one of the Battle of the Trailblazers

Godfrey, Ill. – In a game that might be confusing to some only listening on the radio, the No. 24-ranked Vincennes University Trailblazers hit the road to face the Lewis & Clark CC Trailblazers.

The blue and gold came away with the 84-61 win over Lewis & Clark, getting VU back in the win column after a small two-game skid.

Lewis & Clark were the ones off to the fast start at home, opening up the game with a 7-2 lead before Vincennes came back to score the next seven unanswered to take the lead.

Once VU got the lead they never looked back, building a strong 14-point advantage at the break.

Sophomore John Ukomadu got Vincennes going early, coming off the bench to score 11 points in the opening half of play.

Fellow sophomore Christian Wells also came through for VU early scoring in the paint and on the boards, heading into the locker room with eight points and seven rebounds.

Vincennes continued to grow their lead in the second-half. The advantage grew to as many as 30 points late in the second period, before Lewis & Clark went on a small scoring run to close the game.

Sophomores Randy Tucker and John Ukomadu led Vincennes with 15 points each. With 12 of Tucker’s 15 points coming in the second half, while also narrowly missing a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.

Christian Wells posted his first double-double of the season, ending his night with 13 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Wells was responsible for half of VU’s 12 offensive rebounds.

Sophomore Jalen Harper came off the bench to reach double-figures as well, finishing with 12 points and seven assists.

Freshmen Brevin Jefferson and Brandon Muntu each finished with eight points, with Jefferson adding an additional five assists and Muntu grabbing five rebounds to go along with his three assists.

VU has a tough stretch ahead of them, as the Lewis & Clark came kicked off a stretch of four games in eight days for Vincennes. VU will be back on their home floor Monday, Feb. 22 when they take on Shawnee at 7 p.m. eastern in a game that was postponed this past Wednesday.

Vincennes will then take on Kaskaskia at the P.E. Complex Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. Following that, VU will hit the road Saturday, Feb. 27 to take on Southwestern Illinois at 6 p.m. eastern.

VU improves to 6-3 on the season, with a 2-3 record in Region 24.
