No. 24 Vincennes University women’s basketball shuts down John A. Logan

VINCENNES, Ind. – The No. 24 Vincennes University women’s basketball team defeated visiting John A. Logan 100-50 Saturday night at the P.E. Complex.

The Trailblazers started the game off strong outscoring the Volunteers 31-9 in the first quarter of play.

This was an important win for VU coming off of its 83-78 loss to No. 15 Wabash Valley on Wednesday night.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Jhala Henry (Jeffersonville, Ind.) shined tonight contributing 26 points with three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Fess Hawkins (Bentonville, Ark.) scored 13 points on the night with 13 total rebounds.

Freshman Elena Aznar Chamarro (Zaragoza, Spain) scored 15 points.

Freshman Gara Jorge Garcia (Galdar, Spain) put up 16 points.

VU Coach Harry Meeks says. . .

“We wanted it as aggressive as you could get it, John A. Logan is always a good team. We don’t want to give away points when we don’t have to.”

“Coming off a loss to Wabash Valley, it’s essentially a trap game. If you don’t show up to play, they’ll beat

you. John A. Logan is a team with a great history and is very capable of doing just that.”


  • VU improved its overall record to 20-4.
  • The Trailblazers have a 10-0 record at home.

Next up

The Trailblazers travel to Lincoln Trail College on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. EST at Robinson, Ill.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
