Pair land on all-tourney team

VINCENNES, Ind. -- Vincennes University volleyball team members Mackenzie Haworth and Grace Doane were selected to the all-tournament team for their stellar play over the weekend during the Showdown on the Wabash.

The pair helped lead the Trailblazers to a perfect 4-0 record in winning the team championship.

Haworth came off the bench to play a vital role in the wins. The sophomore finished the tournament with 15 kills while hitting on .483% of her swings.

“Mackenzie only played at the end of several sets, but she had some big numbers,” VU coach Gary Sien said. “She scored with some timely kills and came up with an ace for one of the matches. We have her come in to spark the team and that is what she did for us this weekend.”

Doane was one of the top attackers for the Trailblazers in the four wins. The freshman finished with 33 kills with a .424 hitting percentage to go along with 12 blocks.

“Grace had a great weekend as she put away nearly every ball,” Sien noted. “She is new as a right-side hitter but she is feeling more comfortable each day. She played with confidence in every match and it showed in the results.”

Two players from every team was named to the all-tournament team, which was selected by the eight coaches.

The wins improved the Trailblazers record to 21-8 on the season as they ride a season-high 8-match winning streak into Tuesday night’s home match against Rend Lake.

Tuesday’s match is the “Dig Pink” match and it will commence at 7 p.m. in the PE Complex.
