Record-setting efforts in region meet land Klyuchnikova among athletes of week

NEW ORLEANS - Fresh off a two record-setting performances at the NJCAA Region 12 Super-Regional Meet over the weekend, Vincennes University freshman Varvara Klyuchnikova has been named to the latest list of U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athletes of the Week.

Klyuchnikova is the USTFCCCA Div. I NJCAA Women's Athlete of the Week. The list also covers NCAA competitors.

The product of Russia established new VU standards at the region meet with wins in the High Jump (5 feet, 10 3/4 inches) and Triple Jump (38.35 feet). The effort in the High Jump ranks No. 1 in NJCAA competition this season and also placed Klyuchnikova in a tie for 16th among all collegiate competitors.

Klyuchnikova and the Trailblazers are currently preparing for the May 17-19 NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Levelland, TX.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
