Top-ranked VU Trailblazers post 67-point win over Lindsey Wilson

The NJCAA No. 1 Vincennes Trailblazers drilled 12 3-pointers, outrebounded Lindsey Wilson by a 51-19 margin and scored more points in the first half than their opponents had in the entire game in dismantling the visiting Blue Raiders 111-44 Wednesday night at the VU P.E. Complex.

Sophomores Mychal Mulder and Jantzen Goodwin both hit four treys each as Mulder scored a game-high 26 and Goodwin finished with 16 to lead five Trailblazers in double-figure scoring. Sophomore A.J. Patty posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomores Jaelan Manson and Donte' McGill had 13 and 12 points, respectively, for VU (7-0).

The game was decided early as VU led 21-11 at the 13:31 mark in the first half and then stretched the lead to 39-21 with six minutes to go in the half, before outscoring the Blue Raiders 18-2 the rest of the way to hold a 57-23 advantage at halftime. Mulder had scored 18, while Patty had 12 in the opening 20 minutes. After the break, it was simply a chance for VU to get in some work as the Trailblazers scored 54 more points and held the Blue Raiders to 21 in the second 20 minutes.

VU earned the lopsided victory by shooting 38-for-69 (.551) from the floor - including 12-for-23 from beyond the arc (.522) - and hit 23-of-29 from the free throw line. The Trailblazers also helped themselves with 15 offensive rebounds while committing only eight turnovers to go with eight steals.

The Trailblazers will go on the road Saturday to Mattoon, IL, for an 8:30 p.m. (Vincennes time) tip-off at Lake Land. VU will return to the VU P.E. Complex on Tuesday, Nov. 25, to host Olney Central in a doubleheader. The VU Women's Basketball Team will take on the Lady Blue Knights at 5 p.m. and then the men take the floor at about 7 p.m.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
