Trailblazer women's basketball earns fifth straight victory

CARTERVILLE, Ill. -  The Vincennes University women’s basketball team posted its fifth straight win with a 99-84 victory over John A. Logan on Tuesday.

VU Statistical Leaders

Sophomore Fess Hawkins (Bentonville, Ark.) notched her seventh double-double this season. She totaled 25 points and 12 rebounds. Hawkins was 10-for-11 from the field.

Sophomore Jhala Henry (Jeffersonville, Ind.) tallied 21 points, seven steals, five rebounds, two assists and one block.

Redshirt sophomore Jaynice Stovall (Covington, Ky.) posted 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Freshman Gara Jorge Garcia (Galdar, Spain) added 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore Jocelyn Thompson (Houston, Texas) finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.


  • The Trailblazers improved to 8-3 overall.
  • The game was tied 43-all at halftime. VU was up 76-66 at the end of the third quarter and outscored John A. Logan 23-18 in the fourth.
  • Hawkins ranks 5th in NJCAA Division I with 6.7 offensive rebounds per game. She ranks 8th in the nation with 13.2 rpg. Her 6.5 defensive rebounds per game rank 30th.
  • Henry’s 3.7 steals per game rank 18th in the nation. Stovall’s 3.2 spg rank 45th.
  • Stovall is ranked 25th in Division I with 5.4 assists per game.
  • Henry is averaging 18.6 points per game, ranking her 33rd in the nation.

The Trailblazers host No. 12 Wabash Valley on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. ET in the P.E. Complex.

Play for Kay Cancer Awareness

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Kay Yow was a college head coach for 38 years and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Her name is synonymous with North Carolina State. She is a member of the Naismith National Basketball Hall of Fame and achieved more than 700 career victories. Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009 after an on-again, off-again battle with the disease.

Scholarship Fund

Trailblazer Scholarship Fund - The VU Foundation awarded a record $1.4 million scholarship dollars of VU Foundation and University funds for the 2015-2016 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  

These included awards to students from 10 states across the country and 4 international awards.  

Currently the VU Foundation manages over 540 scholarship and department funds, with 259 new funds created in just the last 10 years.
