Trailblazers baseball riding four-game win streak

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University baseball team piled on the runs and dominated Harper in a doubleheader at Jerry Blemker Field on Saturday.

The Trailblazers began the afternoon by cruising to a 10-0 victory in a five-inning game.

VU had eight hits as a team.

Brian Campbell was 2-for-2 with a triple, scored three runs and drove in a run.

Isaiah Davis had three RBIs and double.

Will Randell drove in two runs and hit 2-for-3, including a double.

Trent Weiss hit a home run.

Kavan Crowell was the winning pitcher. He struck out four, walked two and allowed three hits over five innings.

In Game Two, the Trailblazers collected 11 hits on their way to a 10-5 victory in seven innings.

Walker Paris recorded four RBIs and two hits.

Randell contributed three hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Bricem Thompson drove in two runs.

Davis added two hits and scored two runs.

Winning pitcher Luke Lancaster didn’t give up a run and allowed just one hit in 1.2 innings. He had three strikeouts and one walk.

Saturday’s victories move the Trailblazers to 15-7 overall record.

VU plays next at Olney Central Wednesday at 3 p.m. EDT.

The Trailblazers resume Mid-West Athletic Conference play this weekend. VU is in first place in the conference standings with a 4-0 record.

The Trailblazers play a M-WAC doubleheader on Saturday against Parkland in Champaign, Illinois at 2 p.m. EDT. On Sunday, VU hosts Parkland in a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. EDT at Jerry Blemker Field.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
