Trailblazers blast Don Bosco Prep, 117-70, in return to 2015-16 action

Freshman Nate Hansen hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points off the bench to lead five Vincennes University players in double figures Sunday as the Trailblazers blasted visiting Don Bosco Prep, 117-70, in VU's return to action from the holiday break.

NJCAA Honorable-Mention VU (13-3) also got 21 points from sophomore forward Justin King, 15 from freshman guard Jeremiah Bell and 12 points each from sophomores Makur Puou and Darren Groves. Don Bosco Prep's Destin Barnes had a game-high 28 points as the Dons' lone double-figure scorer.

The game was never in question for VU. The Trailblazers were up 26-6 at the 12:00 mark in the first half and led 65-28 at halftime. The hosts cruised in the second half and led by as many as 53 points with about 4:00 to play.

Hansen's 6-for-7 shooting barrage from beyond the arc led VU's long-range attack of 13 treys in 19 attempts (68 percent), including 5-of-7 in the second half. Bell hit three 3-pointers and King drilled a pair of treys. Overall, VU shot a blistering .682 from the floor. The Trailblazers also posted a 38-26 rebounding advantage.

The Trailblazers will host Lincoln Trail on Wednesday in a return to NJCAA District 16 action. VU and the Statesmen will tip off at 7 p.m. at VU P.E. Complex. The game will follow the VU Women's Basketball Team hosting Lincoln Trail.

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
