Trailblazers Land Ohio University Transfer Rodney Culver Jr.

Vincennes, IN – Head Coach Todd Franklin confirmed this morning that 6’5 wing transfer from Ohio University Rodney Culver Jr. Will be sporting the blue, white, and gold of Vincennes University for this upcoming basketball season.

Culver Jr. is a native of Columbus, Ohio, where he made big play, after big play for Pickerington Central. While at Pickerington Central, he garnered 2nd team All-District & 2nd team All-State accolades twice, and averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds, & 4 assists as a senior. After graduating from high school, Culver Jr. decided to attend Elev8 Prep, where he averaged 20pts, 7rebs, & 4ast, and helped them to lead the team a National Prep Tournament Elite 8 appearance.

After leaving Elev8 prep, Culver Jr. played his freshman season at Ohio University. As a Bobcat, Culver Jr. saw action in all 32 games last season, and proved to be very effective while on the floor.

Coach Franklin said of Culver Jr., “Rodney had a really successful first year at Ohio, but wanted to transfer to get a little more playing time, and find a better fit. He has a chance to be a key part of our team’s success next season. He gives us some size and athleticism at the wing position, something we missed last year in the tournament. He has proven he is at the very least a mid-level DI guy, and we feel he is really going to big for us.”

VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
