Trailblazers remain at No. 2 in NJCAA Poll


The Vincennes University Men’s Basketball team was idle last week and did not move in the latest NJCAA Division I Poll released on Tuesday.

The Trailblazers received 386 points to remain at the No. 2 spot this week.

South Plains (10-0), who was also idle, received 397 points to remain at No. 1 for the second straight week.

South Plains (13) and VU (3) were the only teams who received first-place votes.

Rounding out the Top 5 are: No. 3 Northwest Florida State (12-1), No. 4 Tallahassee (15-0) and No. 5 Florida Southwestern State (13-1).

John A. Logan, a District 16 foe for the Trailblazers, moved up three spots this week to crack the Top 10. The Vols are 12-1 on the season and ranked No. 8 this week. The only loss for Logan this season came at home to the Trailblazers.

Another District 16 opponent, Olney Central (12-1), received three points this week to move back into the honorable mention list. The Knights only loss came at home against Lincoln Trail.

The Trailblazers defeated LTC on Monday night, 94-74.

VU (13-0, 5-0), returns to the court after Christmas break on Jan. 3, at home, against Elizabethtown.

The next NJCAA Poll will be released on Jan. 8.

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.

Trailblazer Scholarship fund - The VU foundation awarded $970,242.80 scholarship dollars of the VU Foundation and University funds for the 2017-18 school year to incoming and returning VU students.  These included awards to students from 8 states across the country and 3 international awards.

The VU Foundation currently manages over 525 scholarship and department funds, with 247 news funds created in just the last 9 years.
